When Zin, former girlfriend of a Thai mob boss, falls for Masashi, a Japanese gangster in Thailand, the boss banishes them: Masashi to Japan, and Zin, with her small daughter Zen, to live next to a martial arts school. Zen is autistic, with uncanny swift reflexes. She watches the students next door and Muay Thai movies, absorbing every technique. She's now a teen, and her mother needs chemotherapy. Zin has taken in a chubby kid, Moom, who watches over Zen. Moom finds a ledger listing business men who owe Zin money; he goes to them one at a time to collect in order to pay for Zin's treatment. Zen, with her martial skills, becomes his enforcer. A showdown with the boss is inevitable. Written by
I used your recipe yesterday. I organic unsweetened chocolate, but threw away the package so I can’t say what brand. I also used equal exchange organic baking cocoa. I found food-grade cocoa butter by NOW in the baking section of my local health food store. I decided to give it a go. The substitution I made was to use xylitol. It wasn’t powdered, however, it was granulated. I thought it would melt in the chocolate. NOT the case. So, my first batch I made I used all the same measurements and the xylitol made the chocolate grainy. I had enough ingredients to make it again. But the second time around I added only one tablespoon of xylitol. It melted just fine. But the chocolate wasn’t quite sweet enough. So, I added another tablespoon. But then I ended up with grainy-ness again. And the second batch is now closer to a semi-sweet or 70% dark chocolate sweetness (which I prefer). I expect that the grainy-ness will be present in the chips if I bake them. Ultimately, these have great flavor and will satisfy my occasional cravings. Wondering if I found a powdered xylitol, if that would solve the melting issue.

Usually, an emulsifying agent, such as soy lecithin, is added, though a few manufacturers prefer to exclude this ingredient for purity reasons and to remain GMO-free, sometimes at the cost of a perfectly smooth texture. Some manufacturers are now using PGPR, an artificial emulsifier derived from castor oil that allows them to reduce the amount of cocoa butter while maintaining the same mouthfeel.

Made with a unique whey protein blend, this fudge-flavored protein bar boasts 20 grams of high-quality protein and virtually zero sugar. Reviewers love the soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture of this bar, with one fan writing: "This is the only low sugar, high (and high-quality) protein, and gluten free protein bar that I've found. To top it off, it tastes very good, and this particular flavor is pleasantly chewy, rather than dry like many protein bars." You'll get 10 bars for $22, making it an affordable buy if you're looking to cut back on sugar and boost your protein intake as well.
If you are indulging in typical white sugar filled, preservative filled store bought candy bars then yes, the sugar in them causes cravings for more. But when you choose to make candy bars at home and use healthier ingredients and sugar free alternatives, your body will be satisfied, won’t have that typical spike in blood sugar and it certainly won’t make you crash after eating any. No spike in blood sugar means you won’t be craving more and more after indulging in a few pieces.
Thanks so much for sharing all of your hard work with the world! My son recently started the Modified Atkins Diet for seizures. We’ve been told to keep his net carbs (total carbs minus fiber but not minus sugar alcohols) around 20-25/day, and he’s having a hard time giving up all of his beloved carbs, including chocolate. I was so excited to find this recipe! 1.8 net carbs is the perfect splurge! The first batch is in the fridge, but now I’m afraid to give it to him. From our count, it looks like each serving has almost 10 net grams of carbs, mostly from the Swerve (2 from unsweetened chocolate + 120 from Swerve + 11 from unsweetened cocoa = 133 net carbs, divided by 14). Please tell me I’m missing something … my son is salivating, and I’d love to let him have a treat! I’m new to all of this, so maybe there’s a reason I don’t have to worry. (I’ve seen Swerve in another recipe for patients on a related diet, the ketogenic diet, but I just don’t see how it’s safe if we can’t subtract sugar alcohols.) Thank you!
Is the Stevia a necessary component to making the dish work or is it just an extra sweetener to coincide with the Erythritol? We’ve tried several versions of Stevia, and I just can’t seem to find my way past the after-taste, even in small amounts. I’ve been reading that it’s used to counter something about the Erythritol, but I wasn’t sure if that was the case here (and honestly have been too shy to ask anyone else lol).
Now I am having the same problem with my youngest when he turned 1 -_- BUT I have discovered a few months ago both my boys will happily scoff back a vege/chicken curry I make, so I make that once or twice a week (I roast up 2 big chickens and cook extra veges, then use the left overs the next day to make it. Or sometimes make up Cauliflower curry soup from the Wheat Belly book if cauliflower is nice and cheap, and use that.) Unfortunately they will only eat it with rice, but for me personally I would rather them have a decent amount of veges a couple of days a week than cut out the rice completely so it is a compromise I am willing to take 🙂

Hi Mel, Assuming that your ranch dressing doesn’t have sugar added, you don’t need to worry too much about limiting it, but within reason. This is my homemade ranch dressing recipe, which has 0.9g net carbs per 2-tbsp serving. It would be hard to find a store bought one with much less than that, even though some round anything less than 1g down to 0g, which isn’t truly accurate. Also, keep in mind that if weight loss is your goal, some people find that too much dairy can cause a stall. Finally, make sure you aren’t using all your “available” carbs on ranch dressing – have it with some low carb veggies!

An extreme form of low-carbohydrate diet – the ketogenic diet – is established as a medical diet for treating epilepsy.[14] Through celebrity endorsement it has become a popular weight-loss fad diet, but there is no evidence of any distinctive benefit for this purpose, and it risks causing a number of side effects.[14] The British Dietetic Association named it one of the "top 5 worst celeb diets to avoid in 2018".[14]

And while brands such as Lily’s sugar free chocolate chips do exist on the market, making your own at home not only saves money, it also enables you to control what ingredients to use. Lily’s chips contain soy, and many other brands contain dairy and artificial ingredients, so if you want to avoid those ingredients as well as sugar, making your own sugar free chocolate chips recipe is the way to go. I’ve also included an option below for making the chips with maple syrup or agave if you want refined sugar free and vegan chocolate chips.
Cocoa powder is the pulverized cocoa solids left after extracting almost all the cocoa butter. It is used to add chocolate flavor in baking, and for making chocolate drinks. There are two types of unsweetened cocoa powder: natural cocoa produced by the Broma process, with no additives, and Dutch process cocoa, which is additionally processed with alkali to neutralize its natural acidity. Natural cocoa is light in colour and somewhat, and is commonly used in recipes that also use baking soda; as baking soda is an alkali, combining it with natural cocoa creates a leavening action that allows the batter to rise during baking. Dutch cocoa is slightly milder in taste, with a darker colour. It is frequently used for chocolate drinks such as hot chocolate due to its ease in blending with liquids. However, Dutch processing destroys most of the flavonoids present in cocoa.[8]
Film was really surprising! The story was good, the acting was good, and the martial art/stunts were amazing! Its a must see if you ask me. This little girl and the rest of the crew put life and limb on the line (for real) as you'll see in the Jackie Chanish end blooper reel (well more like a injury video log).. Anyway you'll enjoy this well done film and you'll tell other about it. The story was interesting... We begin with the parents of our main lead .... The mother a gangsters girl and the dad the same gangsters rival.... Until they get together and have a child , that turns out to be autistic ... later her and her closest friend encounter trouble as they try to collect money to pay the mothers medical bills .... who has turned out to have cancer// Her great skills appear when her savant ability to see and copy TV/video games/etc makes her a martial arts goddess

The Atkins diet and the many other low-carb diets that followed in its footsteps have turned out to be less effective, and less healthy, than originally claimed. Often, the weight returned, and as it did, problems such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure came back, too. Also, in the end, many people decided they didn’t want to go through life without ever eating pasta again. Let’s look at what would happen if you followed one of the more extreme low-carb diets.
Dukan Diet This option also includes four phases: two weight loss and two maintenance. For instance, the first phase of the Dukan diet focuses on high-protein foods, the second adds vegetables back in, the third allows two “celebration” meals per week, and the fourth is about keeping your weight stable. Because you can follow the diet from the book, it also appeals to people who need a planned approach.

Unsweetened chocolate is pure chocolate liquor, also known as bitter or baking chocolate. It is unadulterated chocolate: the pure, ground, roasted chocolate beans impart a strong, deep chocolate flavor. It is typically used in baking or other products to which sugar and other ingredients are added. Raw chocolate, often referred to as raw cacao, is always dark and a minimum of 75% cacao.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Starting your day with a healthy and nutritious breakfast helps kick-start your metabolism, stabilize your blood glucose, and ward off mid-morning hunger. I know for a fact that, if I skip breakfast, I usually experience a mid-morning energy slump which is usually accompanied by a craving for junk food and coffee! Recipes here.
Recently, a 2012 report published in The Journal of Physiology found evidence of strong metabolic consequences of a high-sugar diet coupled with a deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids on cognitive abilities. These effects were due to the association of consuming high amounts of glucose and insulin action, which control brain-signaling mediators. As one might expect, the unhealthy diet that was high in sugar but low in healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids was associated with lower cognitive scores and insulin resistance. (6)
In 2009, Salvation Army International Development (SAID) UK stated that 12,000 children have been trafficked on cocoa farms in the Ivory Coast of Africa, where half of the world's chocolate is made.[114] SAID UK states that it is these child slaves who are likely to be working in "harsh and abusive"[115] conditions for the production of chocolate,[114] and an increasing number of health-food[116] and anti-slavery[117] organisations are highlighting and campaigning against the use of trafficking in the chocolate industry.
Excessive consumption of large quantities of any energy-rich food, such as chocolate, without a corresponding increase in activity to expend the associated calories, can cause weight gain and possibly lead to obesity.[76] Raw chocolate is high in cocoa butter, a fat which is removed during chocolate refining and then added back in varying proportions during the manufacturing process. Manufacturers may add other fats, sugars, and milk, all of which increase the caloric content of chocolate.[76]
Chocolate is sold in chocolate bars, which come in dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate varieties. Some bars that are mostly chocolate have other ingredients blended into the chocolate, such as nuts, raisins or crisped rice. Chocolate is used as an ingredient in a huge variety of candy bars, which typically contain various confectionary ingredients (e.g., nougat, wafers, caramel, nuts, etc.) which are coated in chocolate.
Hi Cyn, The numbers are general guidelines but will vary depending on many factors, such as activity level, insulin resistance, weight and more. There is no single magic number, just conventional recommendations that are a good starting point. I will have a macro calculator coming soon that will help determine what is best for each person, but even then it’s an approximation. The only way to know for sure is to test. If keto is your goal, it’s usually best to start lower and then see if you can stay in ketosis when increasing.

Chocolate tempering machines (or temperers) with computer controls can be used for producing consistently tempered chocolate. In particular continuous tempering machines are used in large volume applications. Various methods and apparatuses for continuous flow tempering have been described by Aasted, Sollich and Buhler, three manufacturers of commercial chocolate equipment, with a focus now on energy efficiency. In general, molten chocolate coming in at 40–50 °C is cooled in heat exchangers to crystallization temperates of about 26–30 °C, passed through a tempering column consisting of spinning plates to induce shear, then warmed slightly to re-melt undesirable crystal formations.[68][69]
Hello, Anna. Thanks for the compliment and great questions. You may use any sweeteners that you prefer -BUT- the taste will be different. If you are okay with it having more of a brown sugar taste and brownish color then go for it! The coconut crystals will be especially good in the crust I think. Stevia glycerite is a viscous super-concentrated liquid form of stevia that I feel is much less bitter than other brands. I am guessing that the nu-stevia is very similar to KAL Pure Stevia powder which I love but don’t use in my blog recipes as I try to stay more in-line with other bloggers so readers don’t have to buy 12 different products! You may need to experiment a little with your sweeteners just a tad to get the taste you want, so taste as you go. I would LOVE to hear how your sweeteners worked in the recipe as it may help someone else who may have the same issues with erythritol. Have a great week!

Asian-inspired food is delicious, but unfortunately, tends to use alarming amounts of added sugar, such as honey or sweetened sauces. This one gets its not-too-sweet flavor from a blend of rice vinegar and peanut powder (use peanut butter as an alternative)—it’s so good and so easy, you may want to bottle some of it for future stir-fries and salads.
This is designed to be dark chocolate, meaning heavy on the cocoa and light on the sweetener. The high cocoa-to-sweetener ratio means you can taste the complex, almost-(pleasantly-)burned flavor of the bitter roasted cocoa. But if you’re not a person who loves 72%-85% dark chocolate bars, this might not be the chocolate for you. If you are, you’ll love the great taste of this pleasantly bitter homemade sugar free dark chocolate.
On the diet, you can get frozen and ready-to-eat South Beach Diet meals, along with some meals you make on your own. They also encourage you to buy South Beach Diet–branded snacks. The upside is that they’ll tell you what to eat all day and there’s little cooking involved (great if you hate your kitchen); the downside is that you have to buy your food through them, and the choices can become limiting. Plus, when you’re buying packaged foods, you’re not getting the full nutritional benefit you would from eating whole foods.
You made me smile with the food leper reference. Love it. As for snacks, there is a page here and here to look at and here is my snack finder. Boiled eggs, avocados, pork crackling, nuts, fat bombs, calamari, granola bars, cold meats … I hope these give you some ideas. Eventually the goal is to stop snacking, but in theme time, these might help you out.
Loathsome to such as are not acquainted with it, having a scum or froth that is very unpleasant to taste. Yet it is a drink very much esteemed among the Indians, where with they feast noble men who pass through their country. The Spaniards, both men and women, that are accustomed to the country, are very greedy of this Chocolaté. They say they make diverse sorts of it, some hot, some cold, and some temperate, and put therein much of that 'chili'; yea, they make paste thereof, the which they say is good for the stomach and against the catarrh.[22]
When picking out gifts for the special people in our lives, sometimes we are limited to diabetic candy. But just because it is diabetic chocolate, it doesn't have to be bland or lacking in flavor. Introduce them to the delicious world of GODIVA's sugar free chocolate and bring new joy to their life. But make sure to explain to them that the chocolate is in fact sugar free so they are not fooled by the deliciously rich flavor of the treats you give them. Once they realize that they can have this tasty chocolate without breaking their diet, they will be forever grateful to you.
Good question. Because although you could melt plain unsweetened chocolate and stir in some sweetener, it would likely seize like crazy. There’s no way, with something like erythritol, that you could get it to mix in, without getting a goopy, thick mess. If you wanted to use a liquid sweetener, like sucralose, maybe but I don’t like sucralose. And if you have to use a significant amount of the liquid sweetener, your chocolate will again seize. It’s very tempermental stuff. An additional oil, like cocoa butter, helps it smooth out and allows it to mix nicely with the sweeteners. And cocoa butter is so hard at room temp, it’s a good choice because it will firm up properly, rather than need to be refrigerated.
